Air is the first most important element we must have. Water is the second element most necessary for life. We even need water to breathe. Our lungs must be moist to take in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. If we went no further this alone would answer the question “why is water important for our health?” But there are more reasons.
Water carries nutrients and oxygen to the cells through our blood. It helps cool our body through perspiration as well as lubrication of our joints. It is vital for the chemical reactions needed for digestion and metabolism. We would poison ourselves by our own waste products without water. Our kidneys remove urea and uric acid and they could not be dissolved without water. If we are not drinking enough water and the wastes are not eliminated as effectively as they should be, we could build up kidney stones. This is when I learned I was not drinking enough water. Believe me when I tell you this was the most painful ordeal I ever experienced in my life. Needless to say I changed my habit of water intake.
I also learned water helps our skin to look good. Water can reduce the risk of colon cancer by 45% and reduce the risk of bladder cancer by 50%. There are studies that show that people who drink plenty of water have fewer heart problems. If you are properly hydrated your blood is thinner making it easier for your heart to pump.
You can not use soda, coffee or alcoholic beverages to replenish the need for water, they are in fact dehydrating fluids thus defeating the purpose.
The rule of thumb for water intake as a minimum is eight to ten 8 ounce glasses of water per day. You will need even more if you live in a hot climate or if you exercise a lot. Check with your doctor for his recommendations.
Take a survey asking yours friends or co-workers how many of them drink the recommended amounts. I would be very surprised if more than one out of ten did. People just do not know how important this could be for their health. The results of the lack of consumption may not show up for years. By then how much damage have we done to our system? The example was my kidney stones and I was lucky because it could have been worse.
This is the very first thing you do for your health. All other programs you will want to use for a healthy future must start from here. I can not stress this fact strongly enough. The first line of good health comes from this source!
I believe this answers the question of why is water important to our health.
I have become totally passionate about the health issues surrounding our everyday life. I am amazed about all the experts opinions about what we should or should not eat, take or do to make us healthy. How many of the experts opinions have proven not to true after all.
I have dedicated the remainder of my life, I am now almost 69, to going back to natures way of living a more healthy way of life. It is absolutely amazing what the human body can do when given the proper nutrition and substance so it can do its own healing.
