There’s probably some statistic out there about how much of our lives we spend in our beds; I’m not sure exactly what it is but it’s a lot! We spend a huge amount of our time in bed, not only while we’re sleeping but think of all those lazy mornings off work relaxing in bed with the paper!
Our bed is often the first place the doctor orders us back to when we’re ill or rundown, or when we need to give our bodies a break. This is a good indication of how important the humble bed is to our health and wellbeing. You can see where I’m going with this, if the bed is such an important part of our lives, well then surely it’s important we choose the right mattress to sleep on!
When it comes to buying a mattress you have a lot to think about, especially if you’re going to give it the time and consideration it deserves! One of the first things to think about is whether or not to buy a new mattress entirely or just a new mattress pad or mattress topper for your existing mattress. A new topper is only worth thinking about if your existing mattress is in reasonably good condition.
The big buzz in the mattress and bedding world these days is all about Memory Foam mattresses, so should you buy a memory foam mattress or a ‘standard’ mattress? In very simple terms, those that suffer from back pain after sleeping should consider the memory foam option, the main reason for this is the level of support offered by the heat sensitive memory foam.
One factor that’s often overlooked when it comes to buying a mattress is the size of the mattress. Sure, everybody knows about single and double beds but there is a whole lot more variety out there to help you get the best out of the space you have available to you, such as queen size, XL double or California King.
The main point I’m making here is that the key to getting the right mattress for you, and maybe your partner, is research. As with anything, having the right information gives you the edge, stacking the odds in your favour, otherwise buying your mattress can be like taking a shot in the dark! So get to grips with what’s available, who the players in the mattress market are and what are the right questions to be asking the salesperson when your on the verge of buying.
